Come after Me

"And after the delivering up of John, Jesus came into Galilee, proclaiming the gospel of God and saying, 'The time has been fulfilled, and the kingdom of God has drawn near; repent and believe in the gospel.'  And passing by the Sea of Galilee, He saw Simon and Andrew, the brother of Simon, casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen.  And Jesus said to them, 'Come after Me, and I will make you to become fishers of men.'  And immediately, having left the nets, they followed Him." Mark 1:14-18 Berean Literal Bible

In these verses, John the Baptist had been delivered up into prison, and Jesus had gone on His way to preach the gospel and to bring certain people into His immediate circle.

To Simon and Andrew, He says, "Come after Me, and I will make you to become fishers of men."

According to Strong's Exhausted Concordance, "Come" is translated from the Greek word duete, which is the plural form of duero, which is an imperative form of eimi, which means "to go."  Therefore, duete is an exclamatory word that says "Come!"

"Come! after Me..."

Verse 18 follows with, "And immediately, having left the nets, they followed Him."

To me, it seems, the emphasis to come is lost in our modern translation, but it was not lost on Simon and Andrew.

Likewise, do not let it be lost on you.  There is a real exclamation, a real urgency, in Jesus' words.  Time is short, don't miss that!

Ozzy Osborne (73 years old) was in the news today.  He was recently asked about his own mortality, he answered, "I don't plan on going anywhere, but my time's going to come."

He'd better start planning.

Talk to anyone who has lost a loved one.  We are not guaranteed tomorrow.  Therefore, plan accordingly.  Make the choice and come to Jesus in faith today.  Secure your life.  Romans 10:9 says, "If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved."  This verse is not saying that you might be saved, or that you will be considered when your time is up.  Romans 10:9 is a statement of fact.  If you believe, you will be saved.

Believe on the Lord Jesus.  Jesus is the God who came from Heaven to save us on His own account.  Come!  ...And put your trust in Him.
